Carter Agrees To New Contract With Nets

Vince Carter will remain in New Jersey, signing a four-year, $61.8 million deal.

The Newark Star-Ledger reported Sunday that Vince Carter, who opted out of the final year of his contract, has agreed to a new four-year, $61.8 million contract with the Nets. The contract holds a team option for a fifth year.

Earlier, Nets president Rod Thorn seemed to indicate that the signing was imminent. "We had some conversations today," Thorn said, referring to Carter's agent, "and I'm optimistic things are going pretty well. Let's say there's good reason for optimism."

The Nets quickly came to terms with Carter after owner Bruce Ratner authorized the deal, despite the possibility that it could put the Nets over the luxury tax threshold.

The Nets also hope to re-sign free-agent big man Mikki Moore who is coming off the best season of his career.

It's funny the Nets still want him after that disappointing playoff exit, when Carter chocked once again under the off-season pressure. But he's one of the players i enjoy the most watching, so i wish him all the best in New Jersey.

I doubt that, Ben was indeed unique, but since Shaq-time is over, they don't need a big body inside to counter O'Neal and can play smarter basketball with Webber in the middle.

You gotta think VC was pretty much always gonna sign back with the nets. If anythin he just made it a little suspenseful to make sure he got full money.

You never know though, teams cant make free agent signings until July 11th, could be some upsets. Looks like Rashard Lewis is going to Orlando, people really think hes worth the $15m a year hes lookin for?
